Providence administers standardized testing for all students, using the Terra Nova testing system developed by education publisher McGraw Hill.  SAT and ACT standardized tests are taken by high school juniors and seniors. These tests are not a requirement; rather they demonstrate preparedness for college entry. Colleges use these scores not only to assess college readiness, but also to award financial aid and entry into very competitive schools. Some universities prefer one test over the other, some accept both. It is recommended that high school students take these tests in the spring of their junior year and again in the fall of their senior year.
